For those who have never heard of Patreon, Patreon is a platform that helps to bridge the gap between Content Creators and appreciative supporters. Towards the end of 2019, Adam Mico suggested that I should explore the idea of increasing my contribution to the Tableau community by becoming a Content Creator; this, I have to admit, is a strange concept but I started to explore it.

Over the last 18 months, a few people have asked me if Tableau Magic is my full-time occupation, it is actually far from it; Tableau Magic is one of my many hobbies. I am actually a full-time Strategic Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Consultant, so all the tutorials and articles were written and edited in my free time.

By leveraging Patreon and the Creator community, I may be able to carve out additional time, resources, and give myself more opportunities to contribute to the Tableau community. As such, I have created a Patreon page that you can visit and support my work here:

On Patreon, we have defined the following supporter tiers and goals.

Patreon Tiers

We have the following Patreon Tiers that provides two levels of financial support for us.

TierDonationFor Your Support
Supporters$2.99 per MonthFor those who love what I do, want to support our mission, and enable us to give more to the community.
On the Patreon platform, Supporters will be able to see all of our articles days before public release; basically, you will be buying me a coffee each month; I love coffee…
Active Learners$6.99 per MonthAs an Active Learner, you will get early access to all written tutorials, Patreon only Tableau videos (ranging from thought pieces to full-blown tutorials), free access to all Kindle eBooks that will be released as well as current and all future Udemy Courses.
You will also have access to our Discord Server to talk directly with me (and our learning community) for real-world support.

In terms of eBooks and Udemy Courses, we have an ambitious plan for 2020, and will hopefully be able to deliver this:

  • eBook: Best of Tableau Magic Vol.1
  • eBook: Best of Tableau Magic Vol.2
  • Udemy: Creating Tableau Extensions
  • Udemy: The Tableau Javascript API
  • Udemy: The Tableau Way: A Complete Guide to Tableau
  • Udemy: Practical SQL for Data Analytics and Visualization

As you can see we are aspiring to create a lot, and your support can help us at Tableau Magic; we are looking to grow, and your contribution will help us to achieve our growth goals.

Our Goals

As Content Creators go, I am still very new to the game, but I have set the following goals:

PatreonsHeadlineDescription
50 PatreonsWeb Server UpgradeI never expected that the Tableau Magic website would reach so many people or have so much traffic. In the next month or so, we will be breaking through 500,000 page views and therefore I will need to look into additional infrastructure to ensure that the website runs at a good pace.
Once I reach 50 Patreons, I will upgrade our website infrastructure.
200 PatreonsTableau Color Palette UpdateWhen I reach 200 Patreons, I will be able to leverage platforms like Upwork and Worksome to get the resources I need to help upgrade our Tableau Magic Color Palette Tool for Tableau.
I want the next iteration to include: 1) Social Logins so that you can save your favourite colour palettes and through user profiles, make them public (or private), 2) Search functionality and a public Palette gallery for everyone to enjoy, and finally, 3) Color blindness testing to ensure that your chosen palette is suitable for those who are visually impaired.
2,000 PatreonsFull-Time InstructorI have a passion for teaching, and for those that don’t know me, I spent the past 10 years of my life running a dance school and helping people overcome physical and personal challenges.
If I were to reach 2,000 Patreons, I would be able to explore the option of teaching full-time and help more people in their personal and professional journey.

On top of this, I am looking to write longer features and cover more in the Business Intelligence space; I am currently interviewing several copywriters to provide editing for the articles on the website.

In 2020, we do have some fun plans ahead, and we will try our best regardless to keep giving to the community. So, if you can support us, through Patreon, that would be awesome, you can also help us out by spreading the word, sharing our tutorials and telling your friends about us.

Kind Regards,
Toan Hoang
